Aurora Assessments

Disability Assessment

Aurora Assessments can complete an in-home assessment at the client’s residence to objectively identify activities of daily living which had been altered because of an injury or chronic illness.

Areas which may be evaluated include:

  • Personal Care
  • Adaptive Equipment Needs
  • e.g. aids for arthritis, mattresses, easy lift chairs
  • Home accessibility and need for modification
  • Bathroom safety equipment
  • Ramps, stair lifts
  • Housekeeping abilities
  • Home Maintenance assistance
  • Transportation (e.g. vehicle adaptations, handicapped public transportation)
  • Community Management
  • Obtaining groceries, personal banking etc.
  • Mobility needs (e.g. walker, wheelchair, electric scooter)

This assessment allows the occupational therapist to both evaluate the client’s ability to meet functional requirements and to make recommendations related to maximizing level of independence and providing assistance with activities that can no longer be performed.

Services are typically funded by: Veteran’s Affairs of Canada, Worker’s Compensation Board, Disability Insurers and Private Payers.
